Google Messages is finally giving us the ability to respond in whatever way we desire.
Google is experimenting with allowing users to respond with any Emoji.
If you use Google Messages, you probably appreciate the ability to respond to certain RCS messages with an Emoji. It's far easier and faster to add π to someone else's message than it is to create a genuine answer.
The issue is that Google Messages replies are now restricted to only seven options: π,π,π,π²,π’,π , andπ. While they are all excellent options, they do not apply to every scenario. What if you want to react with an Emoji that says "I'm not sure"? Or perhaps one that means "it makes me hungry"? There isn't a single option among the seven that would work.
Fortunately, it appears like Google is preparing to correct this. Certain beta users of the Messages app are reporting a new set of options on the flyout bar that displays when you long-press an RCS message, according to 9to5Google. The new menu replaces the π and replaces it with a new icon that displays the whole Emoji picker This would allow you to respond to a message using any of the hundreds of Emojis available, rather than only seven.
Reactions in Google Messages: When will they arrive?
9to5Google discovered this in one of its APK teardowns in September. However, we've never seen this tested on the beta channel before. Given the widespread appeal of this feature and the rapid pace at which it is being tested, there is a good chance it will make it into the app's stable version.
We anticipate that this will become a common feature of Messages in the next weeks. However, we must wait for Google to publicly reveal these Google Messages replies before we can make any definitive statements.
