For the transfer to take place, both Android and iOS devices must be linked to the same Wi-Fi network.

On Wednesday, WhatsApp announced that users would be able to move their entire chat history from Android to iOS and vice versa. This functionality was first introduced during last year's Galaxy Unpacked presentation. Previously, WhatsApp users had to rely on third-party applications to transfer their chat history or risk losing it when switching platforms. This functionality was first accessible in a beta release on the Meta-owned platform. Unfortunately, your WhatsApp call and payment history is still not transferred.

WhatsApp formally revealed the new migration function through a tweet. The company's FAQ website has been changed to emphasize the process for moving WhatsApp chat history from Android to iOS. Before proceeding with the migration, users should keep a few things in mind: their Android smartphone should be running Android 5 or above, and their iPhone should have iOS 15.5 or higher installed. Because the transmission is done wirelessly, both of your devices must be linked to the same Wi-Fi network. It is also advised that you connect your phones to a power source throughout the move.

WhatsApp stated during last year's Galaxy Unpacked presentation that this new migration function will first be accessible for select Samsung handsets. As part of a beta upgrade, the functionality was then made accessible to a larger user population.

How to Make the Switch from Android to iPhone

1 - After opening the Move to iOS app on your Android phone, follow the on-screen steps.

2 - On your Android phone, enter the code that was displayed on your iPhone.

3 - Continue by following the on-screen directions.

4 - On the Transfer Data page, choose WhatsApp.

5 - Wait for WhatsApp to prepare the data for export by tapping Start on your Android phone. When the data is ready, you will be signed out of your Android phone.

6 - Return to the Move to iOS app by tapping Next.

7 - Tap Continue to transfer data from your Android phone to your iPhone while you wait for Move to iOS to indicate the transfer is finished.

8 - Download the most recent version of WhatsApp from the App Store.

9 - Open WhatsApp and sign in with the same phone number you had on your previous smartphone.

10 - When prompted, tap Start and wait for the procedure to finish.

After you finish activating the new device, you will be able to access your chats. Notably, unless you generate a backup, the transferred data will not be uploaded to iCloud. The data will be saved on your Android device until you remove WhatsApp or erase it.
